Full plate and some more...

Brett and i spent most of our Saturday in SLC (Salt Lake City).I was happy to have a Saturday off work, because i rarely get any.
Anyways, both off us went to this class that was specifically on our Nikon camera model.
It lasted for about 3 hrs.To tell you the truth,i did not have any high expectations of learning a lot,but there was lots of those "ooooohh,ok" moments and i realized i have learned a lot better how to use all the functions on my camera.
Well, since we were already in that area,we decided to have a lunch in Croatian/Bosnian (food is similar in both countries) restaurant. There is 3 of them in SLC,as far as i know, but we found out that one of them closed and the store that was part of it closed as well.Man,i was sad!I love to go there once in a while and get all the stuff that i miss from home.Brett's favorite is KROKI KROKET(puffy snacks that tastes like peanuts).Maybe this doesn't sounds good to you,but Brett absolutely loves it.
My favorite is EUROCREM.This is chocolate spread, kind off like Nutella, but it has white part that's a white chocolate. So yummi!!This is what i would to refuse to stop eating even if i was on a diet!:)
Anyhow,we had lunch at this other place that's called 'Cafe on mein'.No adriatic, baltic, whatever sound to it whatsoever, but they serve the best food and the owners are from Bosnia,i think.Brett and i both had Čevapi.Correct me if i'm wrong ,but no one who had those before said they didn't like it.Those are seasoned beef sausage links served with homemade bread and cut up onions. We also shared burek...[BOOR-ehk]
Though thought of as Turkish, these thin packets of pastry (ranging from PHYLLO to PUFF PASTRY) are found throughout the Middle East. They can contain a variety of fillings, including cheese, spinach or ground meat, and may be baked or fried. Borek are served hot as an HORS D'OEUVRE or with a salad as a main course. So good!!We always promise people we would take them to taste some of the foods i had growing up.If anyone feels like going, let us know,we are always excited to go.
Well, this was probably excitement of the day.We planned that day to go to Park City for Sundance Film Festival, but the wheather was starting to be crazy...wind,snow,rain,all together,so we ended up staying home.Just for the record,I'm so jealous of my friend running into Kevin Bacon!;)

I know it is way too late to talk about it,but i just wanted to say that we had great holidays!!Our 2008 was pretty good, but hopefully this year will be better for all of us.With everything that is happening around us,i'm thinking we can't do much about rather than be optimistic. Here are some of my personal goals for this year...(not in any specific order)
  • loose weight - i don't even know if i want to talk about it,it's frustrating.American food is soooo good, but not worth gaining 35 lb!!I realize more and more how bad it is for me...
  • learn how to play piano(better) - i haven't played piano for cupple of years,i think i'm pretty rusty.
  • be a better friend - i am a people person and i have not been my best for a while.I want to spend more time with family and friends. To all of you who i don't hang out much with,i prommise i will stay in contact.
  • start a photography class
  • make my own clothes - i use to love doing this, but i got lazy unfortunately.
  • learn another language
  • improve my italian
  • make different meals - i have some meals memorized,so i've been making those constantly.I do have decent collection of cookbooks and i think it would be fun to try to use all those recipes.
  • go to church every Sunday - it doesn't make it easy when you get sheduled to be at work 3 Sundays a month sometimes, and i wish finding another job would be a little easier.
  • trip to Croatia - this is on our list and we have been planning this trip forever!!!When my passport gets done in a month or so i will be able to plan ahead and set the date.I'm so excited!!!I haven't been back for almost 4 yrs!
These are just few on the list.I'm looking forward to having fun and getting busy.I hope everyone has had a fantastic year so far...

So,we got a Christmas Tree after all...

Brett and i were debating whether to get it or not,but we decided there can't be a Christmas Spirit without it.It is a bit smaller than the last year's one,but it doesn't matter.Brett put the lights on Friday night and i helped put all the decorations up.We usually listen to some Christmas music and enjoy some hot chocolate while doing it.So,here's the tree all lighted up and decorated...
Oh,and by the way,my hubby is a total Star Wars geek(i still love him, thoug ;)) and Christmas tree wouldn't be a Christmas tree without some Star Wars ornaments...

Monday night

Brett took me to basketball game tonight,he got some tickets at work and we invited one of his mission companions and his wife to come with us.It was fun,it's been a while for me since i was at the basketball game.Brett and i both like basketball, though. It was Utah Flash that played (one of the NBA Development leagues),and some of the players were really good.Brett might get some more tickets in the future, and if we happen to have some extras,we'll let you all know.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving! One of Brett's uncles invited us over to his place to spend time with him and his family.Oh man, there was so much food to eat and everything was delicious!I tried yams once again and after couple of bites i'm done,i just can't get use to the taste, and Brett loves yams big time!!I think my favorite part of Thanksgiving dinner is all different kinds of pies and my very favorite one is lemon merengue.Brett loves pumpkin pie,and i'm fairly good in making those but again,i can get use to the taste.Anyways,we ended up playing fun game all night and i loved the Sequence game(i might get us one at amazon.com,i found a good deal!)
I also made something that we usually make in Croatia for a dessert, but you can really eat it anytime.I just made some so family can try and they liked it.It's called FRITULE,and here's the recipe that i used...

1 6-8 oz YOGURT or SOUR CREAM (try different flavors of yogurt)
2 WHOLE EGGS
1/3 CUP of SUGAR
3 CUPS of FLOUR
PINCH of SALT
1/3 CUP VANILLA EXTRACT
1/2 TBSP of BAKING POWDER

Mix with the wooden spoon. Continue mixing until the dough stops sticking to the wooden spoon.
When the oil is hot enough (test by dropping in a small piece of the batter, which should sizzle, but not burn), drop in the batter by well-rounded 1/2 tablespoon measures. You will have to dip the measuring spoon in water between spoonfuls of batter to clean it off. You may also have to coax the batter off the spoon.Do not overcrowd the frying pot. Ensure the fritters are turned so that all sides are golden. When browned, transfer with a slotted spoon to paper towels, let cool slightly, then roll in powdered sugar. Arrange on a serving platter.

I'M GOING TO LEARN!!!

Oh,my...Brett likes to read more than anybody i've ever met,and i am not a big reader myself. We go to the "Borders" or "Barnes & Nobles" quite often.I go through several magazines, while Brett is still reading one thing. It drives me crazy, because he is totally into it and does not pay attention to anything, forgets to do stuff and never, ever hears what i say...but this is to post some other time.
Anyways,i actually found something for myself in the bookstore today...it's a booklet that teaches you how to knit!!Yeah!!Brett made fun of me because this booklet was meant to be for kids, but who cares...and,plus,it was only $2.99!Wanting to learn how to knit has been on my wish list for a while and i always missed opportunity when i had someone to teach me.Hopefully i'll have something fun done soon.
